The Madawaska Owls lost a hard-fought game to the Orono Red-Riots yesterday afternoon 1 -0.
With two defensive minded teams battling it out, Madawaska had some key opportunities early, but could not capitalize. The back-and-forth battle continued all game long until the Orono boys finally pushed their way through with 1:29 left to play in the game.
Although the season is over, I would like to compliment the boys for the class they had after the game and throughout the season. Being part of a team is more than winning and losing, it's about the life lessons that you learn. You are all winners in my book and I could not have asked for a better bunch of guys to work with for 4 + months.
Seniors, you all have the soccer tools and knowledge to go on and play at the next level. You have been coached in a way that will allow you to succeed in the college game. I wish nothing but the best for all of you. Thanks for a wonderful season!

Quarterfinals: Madawaska wins 1-0
In what may have been a bad case of nerves or overconfidence, the Madawaska had difficulties with the #8 seed, Penquis Valley Patriots this afternoon. Despite the field being full of snow in the morning, it was cleared by 11:00 and conditions were quite good despite the recent weather.
Thanks to defense, Madawaska earned its 8th shutout of the season. Madawaska's lone goal came at the end of the first half when Dylan Wetmore finished off a shot that bounced off the crossbar by Jon Lee.
Madawaska will be playing Orono, who defeated #5 PCHS by a score of 1-0. The game will be on Friday, time TBA.

In the final regular season game of the 2009 season, the Madawaska Owls recorded yet another shutout, blanking the Houlton boys 3 - 0. Although both the Owls and the Shires moved the ball well on this beautiful fall day, it was the Owls who capitalized on their scoring chances while beating-up the Houlton defense. Curtis Thibeault assisted all three goals on the day: 1st to Mike Cannan, 2nd to Jon Lee, and 3rd to Nathan Beaulieu.

Game 11: Madawaska routs Fort Fairfield 7-0
This afternoon, the Madawaska Boys defeated the Fort Fairfield Tigers 7-0. The Owls showed no sign of post-potato harvest rust as they shared and moved the ball very well on the rain-soaked 11th Avenue field. The Owls showed how unpredictable they can be offensively by utilizing 7 different goal scorers on the day. The defense was equally impressive, smothering every attempt that came their way and allowing only 4 shots on goal helping keeper Jamie Cyr earn another shut-out.
